Sweet Cinnamon Hemp Treats

There’s always that friend who comes around to visit 3 o’clock p.m. For a while, they meander around and let us know they’re there until WHAM. FEED ME. My friend happens to go by the name of Hangry, but I’ve also heard of Munchies, and Snacky. I try to treat all my friends fairly, and having a midday snack usually satisfies the nagging snack attack. I can’t take full credit for this recipe; it is largely based on a recipe from Adam Amsden’s cookbook Rawvolution. The original recipe calls for almonds, but since North Coast Naturals hooked me up with so many awesome products, I was curious if hemp seeds would make a good substitute.

IMG_2113 Turns out they did! Don’t get me wrong, almonds are great except what that annoying issue known as anaphylaxis comes into play (good news for those with almond allergies; these are completely nut free!). Aside from their deliciously nutty taste, hemp seeds boast some pretty awesome nutritional stats:

  • 100% raw
  • 2 grams of fibre per serving (about 1/4 c.)
  • 10 grams of protein per serving
  • Source of omega 3 and 6 fats
  • Source of vitamin E

Sweet Cinnamon Hemp Treats

by Suzanne

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Inspired by: Adam Amsden’s Cinnamon Girls- Rawvolution

Keywords: raw no bake snack dessert hemp seeds cinnamon

Ingredients (20-24 balls)

  • 2 c. hemp seeds (also known as hemp hearts)
  • 1/3 c. cinnamon
  • 1/3 tsp. sea salt
  • 1 c. raisins (I use sultana)
  • 3/4 c. agave
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and stir to combine well.

With slightly wet hand, roll into tablespoon sized balls and store in the refrigerator.

Sweet Cinnamon Hemp Treats Keep in mind that these treats are on the sweeter side. My suggestion is to roll them into a smaller size, and enjoy a couple with a fruit or veggie as a power snack. Hunger, be gone!

Question of the Day: How do you satisfy your ‘friend’? Are you a fan of hemp?

  1. yum!!!! These remind me a lot of the balls they sell at Kale at Yonge and Eg. They are so delicious but annoyingly expensive so now I can just make them myself :)
